Apart from surgery and research, teaching and mentoring have always been an important part of Dr Francis Wong’s work. For him, progress in orthopaedics also means sharing experience, discussing ideas, and helping younger doctors build the judgement they need as they develop in the field.
This commitment continues at NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, where Dr Francis Wong has been reappointed as Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. Besides his clinical practice, the role gives him another avenue to contribute to the training of future doctors.
Beyond Singapore, the same focus on mentorship extends to his role as Deputy Chair of the NextGen Committee at the International Cartilage Regeneration & Joint Preservation Society (ICRS). There, he is involved in supporting early-career surgeons and researchers as they establish themselves and contribute to the field of cartilage repair and joint preservation.
At Oxford Cartilage & Sports Centre, we see mentoring as part of leading in medicine, alongside advancing surgery and research. Each generation of surgeons builds on the one before, and by passing on what has been learnt, Dr Francis Wong helps ensure that progress in cartilage care continues to benefit patients for years to come.
