Knee pain is still seen as something that mainly affects older adults. Yet for some, the real loss begins much earlier, in the small moments of daily life that no longer feel easy. Sometimes it’s not exercise or work that brings this into focus, but the quieter family moments that start to change, such as squatting to pick up a child or simply moving with the same ease and freedom that once felt natural.
In his recent conversation with Cheryl Goh on CNA938 Rewind – The Wellness Hour, Dr Francis Wong spoke about this “invisible” knee injury and why early cartilage degeneration is so often dismissed in its earlier stages. Because the symptoms can seem mild or manageable at first, many don’t realise that changes within the joint might already be taking place.
This also made timing a key part of the discussion. Once knee pain begins to affect the rhythm of daily life, the issue is no longer just about discomfort, but about what a person is slowly giving up without fully realising it. Dr Wong also touched on why earlier assessment matters, why treatment should be considered before more is lost, and why knee care should be seen not only as managing pain, but as preserving the ability to keep showing up for the moments and people who matter.
